This web site is a collection of previous race results, some photos, a wee story of how it all began, and a look forward to the next race.
The Ben Kenneth Hill Race is an annual event which takes place in Lochboisdale, on the first Sunday in August.
The race starts from Lochboisdale pier to the Cairn at the top of Ben Kenneth, and back.
The first race took place in 1970 with 12 competitors, and the three people, credited with organizing the original race were Eoghainn MacLachlainn, Iain Forsyth and Fr Andrew Coyle.
Our Location
The Outer Hebrides - The western Isles - Na h-Eileann an Iar - are a group of islands located on the north
west coast of Scotland, starting in the north with Lewis, Harris,
Scalpay, Berneray, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist, Eriskay, Barra and Vatersay
to the south.
Lochboisdale is the main port for the Island of South Uist.
The west side of South Uist is one continuous white sandy beach,
and the
east side of the island is dominated by a series of hills, of
which Beinn Ruigh Choinnich ( King Kenneth's Hill ) is the nearest to
and overlooks Lochboisdale. Ben Kenneth is 276m high.
